Scheme Introduction
Titanium‑iron ore, with its abundant reserves, has become the primary raw material for the titanium industry. However, due to the relatively low TiO₂ grade of titanium‑iron ore, it must be upgraded into high‑grade, titanium‑rich feedstock to meet the demands of the industry’s continued growth. The rotary kiln direct reduction process is a coal‑based direct reduction method in which qualified titanium‑iron ore and a portion of reducing coal are conveyed to an on‑site storage bin. After batching according to specified proportions, the mixture is transported via belt conveyor to the kiln’s feeding end and fed into the kiln through a charging chute. The rotary kiln is inclined at 2.5°–3°; driven by its rotational motion and this inclination, the charge slowly moves toward the discharge end. Reducing coal and combustion coal are injected at the kiln’s discharge end, where they burn in contact with a measured supply of primary air, generating high‑temperature flue gases. These gases flow counter‑currently to the charge, heating it to 900–1050°C—with a maximum not exceeding 1150°C—and reducing the titanium‑iron ore into a high‑grade, titanium‑rich product.
